Drug OffensesMartin County Drug Charge Defense AttorneyPenalties for drug offenses can range in severity from very serious drug trafficking charges to drug sale or drug possession charges. I am North Carolina criminal defense lawyer, Sonia Privette. I have been practicing law for over 20 years. I aggressively defend individuals charged with drug violations. Contact me for a 30 minute initial consultation and case evaluation. I represent clients charged with drug crimes involving the following substances:
For 14 years, I prosecuted individuals for serious drug crimes. Now, I utilize the experience I gained as a prosecuting attorney to aggressively defend these individuals. Given my prosecution and criminal defense background, I can effectively analyze both sides of a case. I have extensive courtroom experience and have maintained professional working relationships with local judges and district attorneys. I have also gained the respect of those I have convicted. Now, individuals that I prosecuted in the past are coming to me to defend new charges because they understand firsthand how dedicated I am to my work and protecting your rights. Throughout each case, my firm carefully researches and reviews the evidence. I urge the client to obtain testing from his or her own doctor when necessary (in addition to the prosecutor’s physician). Based on the client’s circumstances, I offer advice and options to the client. My relationship with local district attorneys and judges is helpful in obtaining a favorable plea bargain from the prosecution. However, if my client is not satisfied with the offer, I will diligently represent him or her at trial. Reduced SentencingIf a client has been convicted, I represent him or her through sentencing. I strive to have a sentence reduced by showing the judge or jury mitigating circumstances. I demonstrate that the individual has a job, an incoming paycheck, and family members to keep them in check. If possible, I show that the infraction was due to the client getting involved “with the wrong crowd.” These factors are all very important in reducing possible sentences. When an individual is convicted of drug trafficking, there is a mandatory minimum sentence of 35-42 months and a minimum fine of $50,000. When I represent clients charged with drug trafficking, I work to have this charge reduced to a lesser charge of drug possession or intent to sell.
